Swift Sixteen hoppers

Post by andymctractor » Fri Jan 09, 2015 6:12 pm

A quick look at three Swift Sixteen hoppers that I've got very near to completing. I like chopper couplings so I semi permanently coupled the three wagons together using O seals and fitted chopper couplings only to the two end wagons. I need to replace the O seals with some smaller examples that will keep a little tension on to hold the wagons together as well as allowing some flexibility for when the wagons are on tight radius curves or point work.

Nice paint job Andy, they look good. A lovely proportioned wagon to my eyes.

Andy,

They are beautiful! You've made a lovely job of them. I'm definitely going to have a bash at some of those myself. I've always intended to and one of the things I've been contemplating is how to fit chopper couplings, which I also really like and intend to use as standard. How did you fit them?

Thanks for sharing,

Andrew

The CLR is a continuous run and does not have a quarry. One of my original plans was to have a rake of empty hoppers and a similar rake of full hoppers with different numbers on. They were going to run almost continuously in opposite directions on the railway searching out some priority between more important trains. As with many modellers such plans get adapted. My pending kit box still has too many projects in it and there are no more hoppers.
Thanks for all the kind comments.

Oooh, I like those very much - looking forward to more photos of them in action...

I know what you mean about plans changing, my line's in a constant state of evolution, although often only in my head...

Cheers,

Andrew.
