Mamod Tanker Wagon

Post by Tony Bird » Sat Nov 22, 2014 8:45 am

Hi,

Today I go to play trains in the Bristol area, given the weather thankfully it is indoors. I intend to take a steam tram that I made from a Mamod carriage. But other than a flat bed wagon which is designed to if necessary carry a camera it normally has a motor car as a load, I don't have any Mamod stock. To increase my Mamod rolling stock by one I had a look through my Mamod bits and came up with the following.

Image

A pair of wagon side frames that came from the carriage/tram conversion, a wagon base that came from a log wagon that was converted to the flat car, the buffer beams I don't know where they came from, I had no suitable Mamod wagon wheels but found some Binnie wheels that would do, the axle is from an old 'G' scale wheel set I had and the brass tube wheel spacer is K&S. The boiler I have a number of, they are new and I don't know what make they are, I got them with some other bits and pieces I bought some years ago.

First the chassis was assembled.

Then some braces for the tank supports were made and fitted and the tank painted.

Test assembly.

The tank supports and braces were painted.

Three hatch covers were made and fitted.

Behind the modified Mamod carriage that supplied the side frames for the Tanker Wagon.

I will find out how well it runs later today.

Regards Tony.

That's quite a neat well thought out conversion. It looks nice. If Bristol is as wet as Glos at present it's just as well you are indoors. Just got drenched walking the dogs. Have a good day.
