Not really, don't worry, I'm pretty pleased with it. If it is a little out here and there, that's fine - any inaccuracies are a small price to pay for the speed and convenience of using the Phil Sharples kit as a starting point. Plus, there are very few people who can point out what those inaccuracies are!

You did a superb job on the weathering Andrew. You sure are a master at it, you have lifted the goal post to a level that most of us only dream of, which I do every time I have ago at weathering my stock.

Do two of those "50's" Andrew and keep one 'ex works' and the other do another masterpiece with it.

I don’t know anything at all about this kind of thing — but it looks to me like a pretty neat reproduction of the item in the pic. Cool!

Absolutely!! I couldn't agree more. I've rarely seen such an accurate representation of weather worn wood and scuffed paintwork.

It's not a secret, just real wood (a 0.5mm veneer over the MDF kit in this case) and fine sandpaper! Oh, and then a good old slosh of grot-coloured washes over the top.

I've tried for a similar effect on a plastic bodied wagon, painting a "worn wood" colour undercoat and then wiping away patches of the topcoat while still wet, which worked OK.

Finally! Three years after I started building it, back in the first lockdown, I've finished my model of Ffestiniog Railway Van 4! Looking back over this thread, it appears that the reason it's taken quite so long is that my propensity to be distracted has reached new levels - since I started making it, I've finished no fewer than 28 wagons! Still, it seems like its over 7 years since I last outshopped a carriage, so I'm definitely making progress...

Anyway, here it is:


I hope to have a test run soon, although I still need to get the track up to scratch, maybe this weekend.

Well done, worth the wait. I do like the guard hanging out of the window and the button back seats look just right.

" although I still need to get the track up to scratch".. yes I can see you have quite a few 'leaves on the line' but I can't say anything, most of my visible track has disappeared under mixed moss and creeping thyme, up to 1" thick in places!

Beautiful work inside and out Andrew and will match your other coaches perfectly.

You have far surpassed my meagre skills, it's a fantastic build and well worth the wait. Makes me feel a lot better about how long it takes me to finish a build now, although I haven't got to 7 years yet...
