Workman's Coach

Well, as there's not much on this topic, I thought I'd add one of my coaches... it's a scratch built workmans coach made from ply, I used the blunt side of a stanley knife to make the planking effect. The wheels and buffers are from that wicked company Cambrian!
The coach behind was from Ebay from a small 'garden shed' firm called Andy's Models. It goes with mine very nicely!

I'm also going to be making some bogie coaches like this, but wider to suit Edrig! (along with a gaurd's van).

Nice Coaches! Make sure you've got a good, low centre of gravity when making carriages for an 'Edrig'.

I'd seen that coach on ebay, so it is good that it matches your coach very well.

My very expensive Workmans coach  :roll:  (the one that cost me a arm n a leg on ebay!) left the rails on the bridge and smashed. We beleive it's due to terroists on the MHLR. (trackwork is guna be redone over the bridges with new gantry bridges  ;) ).

A rebuild is guna be done, with a new corragated roof like my workman's...

Ouch, but at least it is repairable.

When it ever gets built my Garden Railway is going to include a rather long bridge, and my thoughts are that it should be protected in some way (gantry, etc.) to prevent just such damage, particularly with an expensive locomotive.

Well, funnily enough my parcel from GRS arrived tuver day, some aluminium gantry bridges. The ones I have ATM are temp., and this weather, they have expanded and caused the rails to not quite fit properly :evil:

a possible solution for your expanding track is to have a short length of track just b4 it which has 2 sets of rails for it. one set for colder periods and the other set a couple of mm shorter for when the weather picks up! All you have to is swap them over when necessary. this obviously only works if the bridge is lift out or hinged.

Nah. Well, at least not with mine, but I live in the north of england, and it never gets as hot as down south.

Unlucky Pete :( But if its any consolation, I managed to damage three wagons in a derailment yesterday as well! :roll:

Ouch not nice. Hope you can get the damage repaired quickly. BTW the real short term solution to expanding rails is pouring cold water on them!

I fixed the coach, all back together again running smoothly. Has a corrugated metal roof on now. 1 thing is though, how do you lot fix windows in place? On this coach, they are bits of clear plastic stuck on from the outside. I restuck them on with tiny dabs of super glue, but it makes the windows a bit cloudy and shows up your finger prints on the windows.... Pics when I can get out when it's stopped raining lol! :lol:
