Just ordered another wagon from IP Engineering its the hinged coal wagon from their Ezee range which I think are ideal for my MSS loco and its an interesting way of getting involved in kit building. Does any one have experience building the Ezee range any pointers will be helpful.

Just take your time and don’t rush it, plus read the instructions 1st, although they are pretty basic, they do change sometimes, but it is pretty much an easy build.

I agree with Rod. IP stuff is usually excellent (I have had / still have lots of IP kits) but do have a good read through first and, most importantly, enjoy it. There is no better feeling than seeing something you made yourself out on your track. I have become more hooked on building stock than running my railway!

If you do make a mistake, don't hesitate to give Ivan at IP a call for any help. He's happy to offer advice on his kits.

It's nice to see someone new to the hobby starting with some kits rather than RTR... much respect to you!

Hi James many thanks for your advice and kind words. It will be nice to see my kit wagons going around my layout I'm looking forward to start kit building. This is something I can do while I am running in and enhancing my MSS loco and of course something to keep me occupied over the winter months.

Received my Ezee range coal wagon from IP Engineering just a question as this is my first wood build kit do I cut along the out lined shape or do I leave a millimeter or so for light sanding and filing.

Can you post a pic of what you are trying to cut please?

Hi Tom here is a picture of one the wood boards.

You only need to cut the tabs that are holding the pieces to the wooden fret board. They will then pop out.

File the tabs afterwards if you do not get a clean cut.

Hi Tom thanks for pointing this out to me.

Pretty easy really, most “card” builds are the same, you need to remove any small burrs from them after cutting through with a very sharp knife.

Hi Rod thanks for your reply they do look straight forward to build.

One other thing Kevin, even though they are an easy build, take your time and try not to get any glue on the outside of the panels, they are a bit of a pain when you come to stain or paint them, it kind of darkens the area they have got on. I usually put the wood glue in a small container and use an old paint brush to put the glue on, that way you can control how much of it you put on the model.

The smaller kits don't really needed building, basically you stick your buffers and wheels on and that's it. The larger kits again at similar in difficulty, except you might need to stick sides on bogies.
The detailing is also exceptional. We've got several of his wagons and they really look the part! Also; if you fancy a battery loco, they perform arguably better than a Roundhouse battery at a fraction of the price and with much better finish.
