Boxing Clever

As I'm acquiring bogie coaches for the MDLR, I needed a stock box which is longer than the norm. I happened upon this at B&Q.........

................ which has this in it............

........ and which costs £19.99 (or £17.99 if you get Silver Surfer Discount!)
The beauty of this is that you can make it JUST the right length for a coach.....

Image

............ which then sits sngly in the bottom half of the box,
protected on either side by pieces of the foam mat you sleep on when you go camping, and with strips of wood above........

Image

............... for the top tray, where two more coaches can sit.

Making the tray was the hardest bit of joinery, using various bits of ply and stripwood I had lying around in stock.

A good rub down and treatment with Light Oak stain on the outside finishes the job off!

Great idea, I can see that being useful for locos as well with some mods. For carriages I use a rescued fruit box from the garden centre, holds 3 bogie coaches + an accoms 2.4Ghz radio transmitter (very useful as this dosn't fit in my steamup box)
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."
