Not really, don't worry, I'm pretty pleased with it. If it is a little out here and there, that's fine - any inaccuracies are a small price to pay for the speed and convenience of using the Phil Sharples kit as a starting point. Plus, there are very few people who can point out what those inaccuracies are!

That's my philosophy too!
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
You did a superb job on the weathering Andrew. You sure are a master at it, you have lifted the goal post to a level that most of us only dream of, which I do every time I have ago at weathering my stock.Andrew wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 3:55 pmI was thinking that, when - in a few builds time - I get round to my half-century of FR/WHR wagons, I ought to make something I can number "50" and leave it almost "ex works" condition. I'm going to struggle though - I'll be itching to attack it with the sandpaper!
Do two of those "50's" Andrew and keep one 'ex works' and the other do another masterpiece with it.

I don’t know anything at all about this kind of thing — but it looks to me like a pretty neat reproduction of the item in the pic. Cool!
Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
Absolutely!! I couldn't agree more. I've rarely seen such an accurate representation of weather worn wood and scuffed paintwork.Peter Butler wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 11:49 amYou're getting really good at this Andrew. The wear and tear to the planking is very nice, and subtle weathering is particularly good.
I'd love to know the secret.

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock
It's not a secret, just real wood (a 0.5mm veneer over the MDF kit in this case) and fine sandpaper! Oh, and then a good old slosh of grot-coloured washes over the top.
I've tried for a similar effect on a plastic bodied wagon, painting a "worn wood" colour undercoat and then wiping away patches of the topcoat while still wet, which worked OK.
Glad you like it though, thank you!

Great stuff as always, Andrew. I was a bit floored to see your queue.

Imagine how it felt writing it!
AND, the whole list constitutes fewer wagons than your mighty train of cane wagons!
