Clockwork Emett

Post by Crackingjob » Thu Aug 16, 2012 10:45 pm

Being out of things for a while and with too many half done projects, thought I needed a quickie project to get back in to things and finish half done projects
So.....quick clockwork locos
WINKSTEAD HALL meant to be the BR nationalised version of Bessie from Chigley...but is more Emett
OUTBID will be my reaction to loosing out on a clockwork loco chassis at the auction at the 16mm AGM this year
Early days yet

No not for the MOTY[/bIf I do something, then it will be something quite strange and secret until the day of the show

The judging seems to be engineering led in the past...not the point I feel for the DIPLOCK. With my last two entries I tried to take an engineering approach trying to out think the judges...success last year...failed this year. I have nearly got this years working better...more later.

Back to reality...These are fun locos. All I have to do is paint and then trim the flanges a little so they run over SM32 track which has a lower profile rail than the old stuff I have in the garden...then build a fun layout for them to run on....The Lurid Secret Railway is the title...just need a plan

Just to complicate things I have bought for pennies, another two chassis to build Bessie and Ivor

Some movement on Winkstead Hall  which is begining to look more rustic than Emettish
Simple card with embossed rivets and some track pins in the water tank
The whistle on top of the cab (which I attempted to also add embossed rivets)
is a map pin with a chunk cut out to be a whistle.
Just need to add detail to the smoke box door and a crew, lick of paint and couplings sorted out
between to loco and tender (which needs coal)....and there we are done ...ish!!!!
It runs well on the old deeper corse O scale track but bounces on the modern Peco SM32 track, so need to
trim the flanges a little.
Pictures to follow as system would not allow me to attach at the moment

Have done some more work on the loco...details on AWNUTS http://whymsical.com/index.php?topic=84 ... 42#msg7242

The loco needs a crew.. Has card painted body and is still a Hornby loco underneath, but has trimmed and regauged wheels so it does not strike the Peco SM32 chairs

The Coach is a Thorntons tinpainted with card body parts. Just needs balacing and some weight, then will run ok.

Excellent work, and just to encourage you further, here is another Emett-inspired layout built for the 2011 Corris exhibition by a local resident.

Rather alarmingly, he said it would have to be demolished soon after to make room for his next creation.
