Hornby clockwork tin plate train running on a garden railway.

Post by Tony Bird » Thu May 24, 2018 2:24 pm

Hi,

For a friend I have just finished replacing the tin plate wheels on a Hornby tin plate train set with wheels with a lower flanges allowing it to be run on modern track and negotiate conventional points. For those interested I used Binnie 24 mm GRP wheels on solid axles for the tender. For the carriages the wheels are pushed on 1/8" K&S tubes running on a steel axle held in place by the covers of the axle boxes. The original wheels can simply be replaced anytime as there has been no alteration to the model. The last time I ran a clockwork train was when I was a child which is a long time ago now, it was quite fun! Video at:

Regards Tony.
