Agree, a really helpful article. Particularly pleased that the 16mm Assoc is prepared to publish articles showing battery powered steam outline locos. I might have a go with an article about one of my builds..... Thanks too about the reminder about using nail art dots as rivet heads. I'd forgotten about that.

Also, good to see a mention of the GR Forum. Might attract a few more active members.

Rik - you definitely should - also the 16mm SMT magazine and the Garden Rail magazine I'm sure would hoover up any contributions you would offer - for instance the sawmill and boiler house would be fantastic articles as well as one of your many loco builds - you have a great way of explaining things in words and pics!

On arriving home tonight after being away with work, I found this months Garden Rail magazine - and inside on page 34, Meteor stars across a number of pages

I thought I'm famous then I noticed Phil had got me down as Mark Hill instead of Hirst - the Hill in Castle Hill Light Railway must have distracted him

Oh well - still very proud of the article and he has done a great job in setting it out

I really enjoyed the article, Mark. Nicely written and illustrated. I'd forgotten who'd given me the tip about using nail art dots as rivets. Incredibly good value at no more than a couple of quid for 1000. And you don't have the faff of having to separate them from the sprue. I've now got bags of 1mm, 2mm and 3mm half round (ie domed) as well as 1mm hexagonal for bolt heads.

Thanks for that idea Rik.
I've got assorted sizes of domed ones but had no idea they come in hexagonal as well!

I'm a big fan of round nail art gems (for modelling purposes I should add. RAILWAY modelling...) but didn't know they came in hexagonal varieties. I can see 1mm hexagonal glitter shapes, but they're rather lacking in depth - have you found something thicker, Rik?

Thanks,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew
No mine are quite slim. Not had cause to use them yet. I suppose, if we are very careful, we could try a double thickness, though the thought of lining up the edges isn't one I relish. :?

Hi Andrew
Not sure if these are any thicker (depends what 'chunky' means) - I've sent off for some and will let you know.

PS - What a strange hobby this is. Who'd've thought we'd end up discussing the merits of different types of nail art adornments? :?

Thanks Rik! And don't worry, I've heard there are far stranger corners of the internet than this one...

I found some 1mm hexagonal plastic rod which might do the trick if these don't...

Sorry for the minor thread hi-jack - it's in a good cause!

Andrew.

It definitely is worth the diversion - hex nail art - I love it - small bag ordered ready for my next build!

Brilliant - yes it can take a few months for it to appear based on my experience

I think it largely depends on what other articles he has waiting to be published - to get a balance of content in each issue.
