LGB Schoema Consist - Improvements

Post by stevenfitch » Sun Apr 16, 2017 1:33 pm

Now begins my attempt to improve two LGB Schoema locos purchased from ebay.

So far i have:
  • Replaced / fitted Zimo MX695 DCC chips
  • Fitted capacitors to the decoders to help them get over dirty track and plastic frogs
  • Tried Masooth automatic un-couplers (removed as didn't find them to be reliable)
Just completed:
as pictured, linking pickups from the two together so they can get over dirty track and plastic frogs even better.

They now run as well as the Ge 4/4's
Next step is smoke generators and improve the lighting then maybe some sound.

Nice clean lookin' connection !

I see your lite-coloured unit has the same detail problem as our cleaning loco'. The headlight rings just don't want to stay on. Maybe a small dot of paint on the inside of the ring will hold the loose ones in place. Will try that when i get back ...

Will be dropping by in the future, to see you lighting improvements !! If process descriptive and easy enough for a novice I may actually try it :D

Thanks for sharing.

Great job Steve - where did you source those smoke units? Interested for a possible steam outline batter project..... and what voltage do they run off? can they run from a direct connection to your battery or do you need to step the power down?
Where did I put that uncoupler?

I have used DCC Supplies in the past for OO gauge projects who sell Seuthe steam generators:

They are Seuthe ones, NO.28 type from Peters Spares - http://www.petersspares.com/
16-22V so i ran them using the 'track power' output from the DCC chip (the other options i have are 10v & 5v).
I did notice they don't work on my programming track which is only 12V.
Seuthe do a wide range of sizes and operating voltages, plenty in the 12V range
