Locomotive sound - marine tugboat

Post by sandy1000 » Sun Feb 26, 2017 9:10 am

Looking for an effective and inexpensive sound system for my locos, particularly the incoming Bulldog I came across this system meant for a small marine diesel. It sounds spot on to me.

http://www.mtroniks.net/resources/SmallDieselTug.MP3

There is probably a marine peculiar give- away about it and dimensions may be an issue - 40mm x 35mm x 15mm + 75mm speaker.

But it sounds right.

Another marine model sound unit

Post by sandy1000 » Sun Feb 26, 2017 9:29 am

Following on from my previous topic I found another small diesel that may be used with Bulldogs and their type.

The site is at Harbour Models.

Try:
Small Diesel (HAR602)

You may find the fog horn a little inappropriate but the bell is superb.

But again the dimensions are probably too large. Perhaps the bulky items can fit into a trailing wagon with a small speaker up with the loco.

Don't know what the cost of shipping would be like or if these would fit your application but i've used these before but in bigger machines....

I've got one of the sound cards from Acme engineering for my small diesels.

Locoworks use the unit you describe in their Bulldog conversion:

You do not need to use the massive speaker that comes with it, you can you smaller speakers that are fitted in OO gauge sound locos.

What are R/C set up will you use as to turn the unit on/off remotely you may need a micro switcher:

I will try and do a thread today on the Brandbright Cricket I have converted to Deltang with the Mtroniks sound chip with a video so you can see how it all works but for now here is our Rik with an example:

with ACME sound and instructions where to fit the card

Do fit the volume adjuster accesable from outside IF possible. Saves you dismanteling the loco.

Am currently converting an LGB loco with Deltang and Mtroniks but will be completed in about 6 months as i need the Massoth uncouplers which are waiting for production due to a retooling at the manufacturer.

Sadly Roundhouse locos do need to be preorderd and can take a year to be produced.
Live steam on 45 & 184mm, battery 45mm only.

The MTroniks unit sounds OK in a medium sized NG diesel loco.

With Deltang, you don't need a switcher unit as it can be triggered by the 0v outputs from a receiver such as the Rx65 (I use output pad 9 or 10 which give 0v when the direction switch on the Tx is operated)
