Road vehicles on rail plus the last of the o/h wiring topic.

A couple of road vehicles modified for rail. A commercial motorised rear axle would have some appeal I would imagine.

Plus the last of the tram photos following on from previous tram topics. The cable car intrigues. The green restored tram is as the derelict, now burnt and lost forever version.

Hi Sandy,
Great photos once again. Have I seen the rail truck in the second pic. down on a certain railway that used to be down on the Mornington Peninsular?

Anyone looking for inspiration might enjoy the Kiwi variety:

For powering a back-axle, there are some choices at IP Engineering:

Sandy can tell us how he did the pick-up truck.

The pick up truck is powered by a Brandbright unit. ground No need for any speed controller it just ground along at a slow steady constant speed as dis the truck.

Those NZ selection of unusual vehicles are good fun -the variety is endless.

Nice rail converted road vehicles.

Here's Tony Bird's Wine Merchant's pick up & barrel running on 'Glendreich' at Peterborough 2016.

These are great - I've seen before in the past Land Rover's rail mounted on 16mm layouts - I'm looking for a good source of suitable sized vehicles including Landys - anyone recommend good sites/sources?
Where did I put that uncoupler?

New in Box 1/18 scale diecast Land Rovers are fairly common and usually cheap. They work out at 23" gauge on 32mm track, suitable for the Festiniog one, and 32" gauge on 45mm track.

Look out for 1/24 scale plastic kits, which scale out at Cape Gauge, as used in the Far East.

1/32 scale ones are common and varied, and suit standard gauge on 45mm track.

My Landrover, which I bought pre-owned at a toy and train fair, was made by Universal Hobbies. Several are currently on ebay but the prices seem to be high. Although not converted to rail use I have modified mine to RH drive and altered the back to allow farmer Davies to take his pig to market....

When I loaded the page, it opened at the Land Rover with the pig, and I thought, "What Daft Beggar's uploaded a full-sized Land Rover!" OK OK I'm due to go to SpecSavers, but that's one damned good photo of a damned good model.
[Land Rover's pretty good too :-)]

Brilliant Peter - great model - you've caught the patina of Landy's paintwork perfectly (my 1:1 Defender is a similar green!) - I'll keep a look out for those from Universal Hobbies on the old Ebay - cheers
