Jack in a box

A new loco was purchased at the weekend, a roundhouse Jack.
This was one of the first engines that drew my eye when I started in the hobby. Sadly that was the same time when the special edition run had been fully booked.
I have seen a few of the older ones come up in varying conditions, but they still commanded high prices. I spied this one advertised in the garden rail mag a couple of weeks ago so made the phone call. I fully expected the the usual, sorry it's just sold as I'm not normally first in the queue.
Happily it wasn't and after seeing a couple of pictures I decided to buy the beast. It hadn't been fired so was basically a brand new engine.
I made the trip up to Bressinham to the East Anglia Garden Rail show and met the seller and handed over my hard earned.
He has just had the first run, bit lively to start with but then ran as you would expect a RH loco to, bit more running in will settle him down.
I'm very pleased to have added Jack to the fleet, will keep Katie company in the shed.

Yep he is number 056/100, the colour makes a change from the green engines I have.

My first choice would have been victorian maroon which works well with the tender, but I'm happy with the maroon he is.

Will look nice next to your silver lady Tom, same colour?.

Nice loco! I really like the shape of Jack but started in live steam too late. That said I love my Katie.

Those are very nice, I would like to have one! I'm constantly amazed by how many used steam engines there are which have never been fired. You'd think after spending all that money a guy wold fire it at least once!

That would be good. Roundhouse delivered Jack no 017 to me by mistake a few years ago instead of my kit. I did take him out for some photos and very carefully re packaged him to send on to the rightful owner. What a surprise!

I wonder where Jack 017 is now?

Were you aware that there were odd batches of Jacks produced after the "official" cessation of series production but BEFORE the "Special Edition"?

Mine came from a shop in the west country (now closed) who had a batch every year - I got told about it and got the last of one year's batch...........

She now runs with a matching tender.

That is a beautiful colour. I wished I had a 'Jack'. :(

I think the Jack I had briefly was one of those special edition ones.

Lovely loco Gremlin!
It would be nice to see it at Alan's on the 26th if you're going?

Mine is Maroon which I find looks less bright in the metal than when photographed. It's a bit different as most people seem to go for the FR Victorian Maroon which I find is a bit too dark.

No 82 in Victorian maroon lives in Shrewsbury on my line. It did meet up with 87 that is in black last weekend as both locos were visiting the Pendle Valley Light railway. One of the very early ones also in Victorian Maroon belongs to another member of the Cheshire, Merseyside and East Clwyd group.

In fact I've just found my page on it:

Turns out its 009 that is in the CMEC group.

No 71/100 is on the Runnymede Light Railway - He's the normal maroon, not the FR one.

The Jack is a very nicely proportioned locomotive.

It's on my list of loco's I'd like. Maroon would be my choice of colour.
