I have sprayed my Roundhouse Katie buffer beams with red car paint from Halfords. Whilst I’m happy with the colour they have dried mostly shiny but also with some dull patches. I have used the brass etched overlays which show the rivets etc so I can’t easily rub down or polish these. These have been primed with etch primer and then a grey primer on top of that. Do they need more coats of top coat or should I try something else?

this does happen sometimes. It could be uneven paint coverage so parts have dried whilst your praying. Make sure you shake can really well and try again on a 2nd coat.

Bake it in the oven at about 130 degrees Centegrade for about 30 mins.
Acrylic paint glosses at about this temperature, I've just done it on the frames of my NG4.

...making sure the wife (if you have one) is out of the house and the kitchen is well ventilated.
I believe those are the usual safety precautions on this one!

Traffic Pattern? What pattern? Spuds out; grain in, but cattle, sheep and passengers are a lot less predictable.

As a rule I tend to avoid regular praying. This could be why the buffer beams on my locomotive are nice and shiny.
