Roundhouse Millie being dropped

Post by JMORG » Thu Mar 04, 2021 5:24 pm

Just seen the Roundhouse page - notice of the Alco and Millie being dropped...

Very surprised to see poor Millie go!

Me too! Maybe they'll replace it with a different Basic side tank? I've always kind of fancied a Millie, can't get wildly excited about Jennie though, just doesn't look right to me...

I think whatever they replace it with will never live up to the Millie. It's got a particular charm that no other locomotive can really capture; must be the pot boiler/slip-eccentric combination. We have member with a Bertie and it seemed to be more unstable and less relaxing to run. Never really seen a Jennie running but I agree it's an acquired taste!

We always considered Millie to be as much classic Roundhouse as Lady Anne; more so than Katie, Billy ect. Very sad to see it go.

Glad I have my Millie!

I believe it is Roundhouse's only potboiler. Maybe it is not sufficiently popular to continue with for that reason, but it is enjoyable to run and better yet the burner is very quiet!

Anyone else misinterpret the thread title?

Anyway...

Presumably the aim is to standardise the Basic Range - Bertie, Sammie and Jennie are technically pretty similar, are they not? There are cost advantages in that.

I'm guessing there'll be a side tank variant to come.

Yes, I did, and was expecting some alarming pictures!
Thankfully they never came.

I think if someone actually dropped a Millie it'll be even more upsetting!

Ah, now that's an intriguing prospect...
