Haze and Katy are my favourites, and an important factor in modelling ;)

I’ve acquired an early complete tender from a friend who had it kicking around and no use for it:

Needed a bit of work as it hadn’t been built with an axle pump in mind, so made up some fittings for the output and bypass return:

Currently leaks a fair bit of water through the holes where various bits bolt together, am planning to seal it with silicon after painting which will hopefully sort it! Just needs a bit of cleaning up and detailing and should be good to go!

Axle pump and bypass in action:

Does feel a bit like cheating using a tender someone else built but time and money are both in short supply so I’ll try to let it go!

Bit more progress, running boards taking shape:

And the tender body in primer after a bit of tidying up and adding details:

Quite exciting to start painting something!

Tender is painted and together, just need to check it’s watertight once the sealant goes off

Wow! That looks very good indeed!

I briefly went off trains aged about 3, because all the models my Dad made (of ex GER prototypes) he painted unlined BR black, which seemed terribly dull compared to my bright green John Deere Britains tractor - I think, 43 years later, you've finally won me back round!

It’s black enamel from this company https://www.paragonpaints.co.uk/ with a couple of coats of halfords clear enamel laquer over the top to seal the decals

Slowed down on this a bit through a combination of working a lot and being distracted by some 16mm bits and pieces. Firebox is now finished in brass though

That really does look a mighty fine loco. Very impressed with the skills you have with building this. :thumbright:

It’s building it that’s forced me to learn the skills in all honesty, can’t recommend a project like this enough for expanding your comfort zone

Been lacking time recently so things have slowed down, managed to knock up a blower from tenmille etches and some bits of 1/4” steel in preparation for its first steaming though. Wired to a pwm speed controller for a bit of adjustability.

Slowly been chipping away at the bodywork and am pretty much there now, vac pipe, smokebox door handrail and one more boiler band then it’s good to go. Having issues soldering the handrail knobs to the door as it’s a hefty chunk of brass and the knobs are tiny, so any suggestions are welcome, thinking I may just silicon them in once it’s painted.

Just need to sort out wick and fuel then she’s ready for a test steaming. Hopefully have the bodywork ready to go back on by the time that’s happened.

First steaming has been a success! Few minor issues to sort but nothing major. Ran nicely in both directions, even made steam while the axle pump was running.
