Hi Nomis,
What colour did you use on the chassis of your loco as it doesn't look like a gloss colour to me?

Tom;
The chassis is a satin black - I don't remember ever seeing a full sized loco with a shiny chassis (unless it was from oil!).
And as for the road-going distractions, there is a new (old) face on the drive.....

New van colour looks good.
Did you use the same paint range of the gloss colours you used as I can only find gloss type paint from the manufacturer you mentioned?

Yes, it's all in rustoleum.
Can't remember satin being especially hard to find (I think my local old-fashioned hardware shop carries it on the shelf).
No need to mess about with thinning & rollers for the chassis, I don't believe it needs the same level of finish as the platework - especially once everything is authentically dirty & oily.

That ^^^ is the "universal" satin black - i have used tge white on other projects & it seems to play with the "comi-color" fine.

Re: Jynn: a 7 1/4" gauge wren
What about the cylinders as they get hot, same paint type?
Thanks for helping!

Yep, same stuff.
Its only the smokebox & chimney that have the VHT / woodstove paint.
(FYI i have just fitted a second hand exhaust to the bus without realising someone had painted it with hammerite - serious smoke.....)

Hammerite is garbage paint these days, it will just flake off!
I found these guys that supply smaller tins but it is listed as 'tinted', does that mean it is a mixed colour to order?

Sad but true.
Painted the running boards of my 5" gauge Minx with that stuff.
Came off in big flakes a few days later...

That's a nice van there. Does it need much work, after fitting that exhaust?

Not too much that it "needs", but there is plenty that I have planned for it anyway.
I have a thread over on one of the VW forums if anyone is interested: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewt ... a069f46155
Back to steam locos:
I really don't think any parts get that hot other than the smokebox. Even at full boiler pressure (90psi), the steam itself is only at about 160degC. It will have cooled somewhat by the time it reaches the cylinders....
Most regular metal paints should be OK with that (although there might be some discolouration)
