Merlin Spares

Hello,
I am new to G scale live steam modelling and have recently inherited my Grandfathers Merlin gas locomotive. I originally had to fix the servo control circuit and in doing so I snapped a bolt on the gas/ignition system.

Does anyone know where I can buy replacement parts fro Merlin locomotives.

To those more familiar with these systems it is hollow - I assume to allow gas to flow through it if that helps.

Thank you

Gareth,
Your description sounds like a "banjo" bolt.
Merlin are long defunct, so parts are unavailable.
A model tool/screw supplier may be able to help, but you would need to know the size & thread pitch etc.

Alternatively a Merlin owner may have some better suggestions.
Must say, there have been no replies yet!

A model engineer, such as Tony at Rhos Helyg may be able to make/adapt something to fit.

Good luck!

Thanks for the recommendation Rob, but unfortunately I cannot help.

My suggestion would be to contact Simon Whenmouth at http://www.anythingnarrowgauge.co.uk/

Thank you for the advice. I will email Simon and will post the outcome at later date on the forum.

As Tony said try Simon.
However, banjo bolts are used on a lot of other things, fuel systems on cars for one. If you have a local Diesel injection specialist they may be able to help If you take along the parts.

Can you post a picture of the bits and where it screws in to?

Here are three images depicting the broken part and the cab showing where it went.

Hi Gareth
The Merlin banjo thread size is M5 x 0.8mm. They also used PTFE washers to seal the joint.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the recommendation. I emailed Simon and we've sorted a new bolt out. Loco still doesn't run but we're getting there

Glad to hear things are moving on a bit.
It's all part of the fun of steam engines.
