Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet
The display case was delivered this morning. After a 4 year build a display case is a must! I've used this company many times over many years, this is the 7th one I've had. They do a really good job. I always go for the same style

That is a great display case Dave, no frame to get in the way of the view. Very clean and crisp looking.

A fine collection of locos.
I hope the shelf is not the final resting place for the Hunslet though!

Certainly not! But it has released a nice bit of room from the workbench and is now safe from knocks and swarftom_tom_go wrote: βMon Mar 09, 2020 1:43 pm I hope the shelf is not the final resting place for the Hunslet though!

The final aesthetic, replacing the clear silicone water tubes with black coloured

A beautiful finished product Dave. Thanks for sharing the journey with us mere mortals who can only dream!

That final picture shows what clean, solid work you've done on this engine. That is true industrial art.

Thank you Keith!
Tom, before the forum goes *poof*, yesterday I ran the loco on coal
I had to come up a method of keeping the grate and pan in position
Ashpan knob below the buffer beam
First dump

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet
Thank you lads! The smell was lovely! No filming yet, it was very stop and start, building up pressure, and running low on steam. Not helped by pumping too much into the boiler - the crown sheet was well covered Very little ash came through into the pan. I need to learn how to fire it. Not too much ash came into the smokebox either, I may need more blast
Best wishes,
Dave

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet
Had a great run on the rolling road yesterday. It's a good way to observe what's going on. I've downsized the exhaust nozzle from 2.0 to 1.5mm, but I may go further as exhaust is not as effective as blower at my speeds, and it's a shame to run the blower all the time. I'm using coconut based BBQ briquettes as fuel. The first run on the line a few days ago I filled the firebox and then lit with the blowtorch for top down burning. This time I lit individual pieces with the blowtorch and dropped them into the firebox (it's deep) for the first layer on the grate. With this "charcoal" very little suction is needed for them to catch alight and my weak little homemade fan is fine. After a while the blower can take over and this generates a lot of heat. I'm getting ash out of the funnel
Thank you Aussie!

Looks fantastic Dave. Wish I could smell it also. Are you going to film it having a run please....

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet
Here we are lads! Had a great run on the line yesterday. The second run around the whole loop. BBQ briquettes are up to the job. I got two laps eventually on one firing before putting the loco to bed - to run the fire right down. Interesting video, an over full boiler with water coming out of the safety and funnel after one lap. And some slow shunting showing where I had previously had a derailment
Best wishes,
Dave

Love it Dave. You have done a really brilliant bit of engineering. To have a loco that powerful and completely scratch built is a truly fantastic achievement. WELL DONE..
