Hello.
Does anybody have a simple way of making a 'steam dome' and a 'chimney' this would be made from light gauge brass/mild steel sheet? I model in 16mm. They would be only cosmetic and non-functional. Thanks, any advice would be appreciated. Frank.
Steam Dome / Chimney
Re: Steam Dome / Chimney
I think this would fall under model engineering, which I can't help you with, but you can buy premade items. I'm pretty sure Roundhouse offer such parts for sale (you would need to phone them). Swift Sixteen does a steam dome.

Re: Steam Dome / Chimney
All those I have done so far have been turned from brass bar, or O gauge gunmetal castings, but I am thinking about 3D printing, as the bit that I have found hardest is getting the flare at the bottom to meet the boiler curve. If your boiler and smokebox are of a diameter where commercial stuff will fit, and you aren't modelling something that has a very distinctive set of boiler mountings, then buying something is probably the smartest thing to do.
Re: Steam Dome / Chimney
Sorry for the delay. Thanks for the usual great advice but I need a very large steam dome none of which the suppliers had, so... I formed a round brass tube and drop filled with lead (an old automotive trick I was told) and shaped with files a long job required some filler but did the trick. Thanks again.
