Brandbright coaches on R1 curves.

Post by Sylvian Tennant » Fri Mar 19, 2021 11:09 am

Hello.

A quick question, I've got sone brandbright 4 wheeled panel coaches to build soonish and my line only has lgb r1 curves.

Has anyone had any experience with them on this type of track?

I'm just wondering if i need to procure bogies instead of building them as bought

Thank you

Yes, it is better to have bogies instead of 4 wheels on those Brandbright coaches if your line have narrow curves.
My PHRy-line is 32mm with 2 foot curves, and all trains moves better around the line with bogies on the longer waggons.

Yes, that was my experience too - I ended up putting my 4 wheel brake composite on Big Big train bogies...

Cheers,

Andrew.

Thanks for the feedback. I had seen others do this to them but was unsure have invasive the bogie fittings would be. Looks like it'll be hunting around for the appropriate bogies.

I've always thought these were rather attractive: https://www.swiftsixteen.co.uk/product- ... -bogie-set

They've got a nice short wheelbase, but the blurb suggests they're for "small to medium" rolling stock, whatever that means...

I'm quite taken by these tbh - thryre a bit longer but look quite purposeful.

Thanks for the suggestion. My recent experience of swift sixteen wheelsets have been fantastic.

This sounds like a good solution - I have IP engineering coaches which are of a similar dimension to the Brandbright 4 wheelers, and on my (nominally) 36 inch radius curves I have had to reduce the distance between axles to about 5 3/4 inches to get them to go round the curves. I think I may attempt an conversion to bogies instead.
