Post by bazzer42 » Fri May 18, 2018 6:36 pm

I have an rc carv9.6v pack that can read 7.5v on a meter but appears to discharge the instant I try to connect it to the esc...faulty battery?

Nimh battery and using an old meter. The battery is reading 7.5 ish before contact and then once I connect up it drops away to next to nothing.

You need to test the battery on load you can't just connect a multimeter to it as this causes a short and have possibly now damaged the battery (I may be wrong I am no electrics guru).

Sounds like a new battery.

A reading of 7.5 on a 9.6v pack indicates that at least one of the cells is knackered, but more likely all will be below 1 volt - well past saving I think. You could try breaking the pack down to individual cells and charging them independently, but it's probably easier just to buy a new pack.
There is a site called http://batteryuniversity.com/ which is great for all types of battery - it will tell you the minimum voltage such cells should go to - typically end-of-discharge voltage is 1V/cell, so your pack should read 8.0 volt minimum
NiMh are considered very 'leaky' when in storage, and need constant monitoring and recharging to be kept in best condition.

Thanks Phil, they haven't been used in a while so probably I'm the cause! I've ordered some cell holders for some AAs I've got. I guess if one of those goes I can replace it easier.

Hallo,

since I use these Panas.... white Eneloop Accus, I got rid of all batterie problems. They are a little bit more expensive, but my eldest pack is more than 10 years old and runs very well.
