To the collective wisdom,
The Potters Orchid Railway's signal and telegraph department staff are at a loss when it comes to electronics and the subject gets them all muddled with the talk of resisters and maths, after all, you cannot expect too much from them, they are only just a bunch of reformed criminals, so their intellect is stretched.
Their contractual obligations is to fit dim LED lights/lamps in the semaphore signals, a total of nine at the Orchid loop. There will be a station lighting but that can be on another circuit.
The need to use a small LED to facilitate fitting to the signal lamps.
I have to type for them as they struggle with typing and PC usage so their questions put to me are
What do they need,
- wiring in parallel is the go ?
- A simple battery pack will be used that will be housed at the signal box along with the lever frame. say 4 or 6 x AA ?
- resisters, considering the battery voltage etc ?
- they expect to fit a simple on and off switch as well, but they can surely manage that!

You can buy prewired LEDs that operate at 5V or 12V very cheaply on Ebay. No need to calculate resistor values.

Parallel, otherwise they work as a voltage divider and won't light up.
