What to do with these?

Post by Big Jim » Fri Oct 13, 2017 2:18 pm

I aquired some cheap Atlas O gauge wagons, with a thought to converting them into 16mm wagons. The more I look at them I think the work needed to make them look the part probably exceeds the effort of scratch building. I did wonder about using slightly larger bogies, or even cutting them down in length. As they stand at the moment they have more of a mine tub feel to them (albeit a very long one).

Please feel free to suggest possible plans of action.

In scale they are about 4ft wide by 22ft long.

Change the name to Norfolk and Good? A failed strapline from Bernard Matthews 😀

In all seriousness would some swift sixteen bogies anglicise them? Could they be cut and spliced slightly shorter?

Hi Jim,

Some ideas for you. Could they be used for special project jobs, e.g. A float in a pageant, a Christmas scene or transport for a travelling circus or funfair that may need their own customized wagons. A surreal one next, the shape to me suggests something nautical so if there ever was a world where they converted narrowboats to work on the railway then these would do for small versions of narrotboattrains. And lastly could they contain liquid or gas. A portable swimming pool?

Hope this helps or sparks some other ideas for you.

Dave
