lamps

Post by cheshire » Thu Nov 17, 2016 8:50 am

Does anyone know of somewhere in the UK that supply UK style loco lamps. I am not fussed if they work or not, but scale to a Roundhouse Silver Lady and reasonably detailed. Preferably not a kit either. Many thanks.

You can wait until Brandbright are back up and running, they do nice white metal lamps.

Alternatively, DJB Engineering do some lost wax casting types:

If you have a lathe, they're not that difficult to make, depending on the complexity of the prototype.

The grey ones are signal lamps measured from a real one I have in my possession, the brass ones are from those used on Puffing Billy (to be finished).

Roundhouse do a two part whitemetal kit (you just have to glue the handle onto the lamp, it's very easy, even I can do it!).

GS model supplies make 3 1/2" gauge lamps? I have some GWR ones and they look right for a VoR tank, they make LNER and BR style lamps as well.
Also, they are 1 piece brass (with separate red and clear lenses).

I made some from plasticard. I had some 1/2 x 1/2 plastruct square tube and chopped it into lengths suitable for lamps. A short slice of tube on one side for the lamp and another on the top with a little lid for the vent. A bit of bent wire for the handle and a blast of white spray paint and you're done. From a 12" section of tube I made at least a dozen lamps in an easy evening. I'll try and post a pic later.
