Cheap Wagon Kits

Post by Big Jim » Sat Apr 25, 2015 11:31 pm

Some of you may have already seen these on ebay. T
I bought a few of the coal wagon kits http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/sm32-16mm-sca ... 7675.l2557

I felt the need for a spot of light relief after spending hours on more complex kits

For your eight quid you get some nicely cut MDF and acrylic parts and what I think are Binnie wheels.

The detail is quite good on the model and what did impress me was the 'planks' are cut right through.

I timed myself building one and managed it in less than 10 minutes.

For less than the cost of a round of drinks I am very impressed. The fit of the parts was spot on (better than some much more expensive MDF kits).

The seller seems to have a varied range of wagons available from time to time. The oil drum wagon has already been mentioned on the forum. There are also flat wagons and small coal wagons.

He certainly does a flat wagon in 45mm. Added a bit of weight and it runs a treat. He hasn't got much up for sale at the moment but they come in frequent large batches so keep your eyes peeled.

Hi
I enquired about 45mm kits from VWMonkey (Phil) and got this reply

Hi Rik, thank you for letting me know your kit arrived and very sorry for the late reply. I do a flat wagon and a slate wagon to run on 45mm track, but to be fair they are more 16mm scale. I have been looking into G scale (if that's the scale your friend requires) but I've not got any kits as yet, but please keep an eye out.
Regards
Phil.

I'm 45 mm, which is close enough to 3 ft gauge for me!

Yep, he does the slate wagons and flat wagons in 45mm gauge. I think he might be looking into one or two other wagons to release in 45mm gauge also (possibly the barrel wagon). The 45mm version generally requires a bit of a redesign as they are wider than the original 32mm gauge versions, the flat wagons and slate wagons been produced after some requests.
Jack (VWmonekys son ;) )
Thanks
Jack
