If I'm honest, they're sat here next to me in the box they were put in after that photo, I have the painting gear out now as I'm numbering up the wagons so I might continue painting it if I have time. :) thanks for the prod in the un-mentionables!
Mr. Bond of the DVLR:104704 wrote: I presume with the CAD drawing you will be making a LASER cut carriage? If so what materials are you constructing with?
However I much I'd love to use CAD and laser software, thats actually a Trimble Sketchup 3D model of the coach. As its all in the correct sizes and all that I could theoretically 3D print it, but I don't think it would work :? It's an extremely rough sketch however compared to my normal 3D modelling!

Whilst we're on the coach, it will use:
-Roundhouse Bogies (these have been knocking around in my Dad's stock for a while now)
-Plasticard for the frame
-Coffee stirrers for the planking and doors
-Cast items for the detailing

I'm hoping to start a dedicated thread once construction has commenced! :D

Dan,
You can download a free version of AutoCAD for home use (we use it at GET to make our engineering drawings). You can make dimension lines with dimensions and then print them out as a guide
I would recommend Swift Sixteen for bitz n bobs, as they do terrific quality stuff for quite reasonable prices. All of Robs stuff have a great level of detail aswell.
If you make more carriages I would also recommend using his bogies, as they are cheap, super detailed, durable AND are possibly the smoothest runners on the market!

Looking good Dan - watch out for warped and wonky coffee stirrers though...

I've just downloaded some CAD software myself, Draft Sight, looks fiendishly complicated but I've printed an instruction manual and await some nice quiet time to try to learn how to use it...

Anyway, kep us posted on the carriage...

As seen in the dedicated thread in the New Models board, here's PFLR No. 4, collected today from Roundhouse at the Warley show, along with one other (thats emigrating to Hungary) and two Berties.

Here she is, she will be steamed tomorrow, although I'm certainly looking forward to it!

More tomorrow! :)

Oooh, I like that! Looks great in green - it needs some nice balconied carriages to run behind it...

Enjoy the new toy,

Andrew.

New extension part way through:

Apologies for the fuzzy image, its a tablet camera.

When completed there will be a runround loop, which at some point will evolve into a balloon loop.

A fine piece of work Danny. Is that the Forest of Dean to the rear of the railway? ;)

Looking good Dan. Made the most of the nice weather this morning? Keep an eye on those firs, we've just cut down some 40 year old ones at the front of our place. Hard work but loads of "new" garden but too far from the railway
You should good weather for a few days, too cold for an old codger so I'm making rolling stock!

Excellent stuff, your growing loco fleet will enjoy the longer run...

Just a thought, but depending on your construction method you might consider tacking battens of treated 2x1 or similar to the sides of your trackbed. I did that on mine, then ran a knife along the underside to remove excess felt, and it really helped create a tidy "finished" look...

All the best,

Andrew.

And that something new is finally coming - maybe for Sunday too, if I pull my finger out! We have an exhibition see...

So far here's what's happened:

The base cut from modelling ply

The sides will be made from 2mm plastic card, here's the first one measured and drawn, and will be ready for cutting out tomorrow. The second hasn't got to this stage yet!

More soon!

Wow did I never update this? :? Sorry!

Firstly, the runround at Blakeney is now completed. This allows loco's to be moved onto the front of the train, and allows for two train operation, which leads me nicely on to my next report...

Well over the past few days I have had a craving to perform a steaming. Bertie was on the roster as it has only been steamed once since Stanley arrived, however by the time I finally got round to it I decided to steam both at once. Dad would drive Stanley and I would take Bertie. It was VERY chaotic (see Dad likes to make trains go as fast as possible)...

Nice pictures Dan, almost steamed here on Sunday after arbor building but opted for the FA cup :?
I like the coach, it turned out well. My next item will be some form of track cleaning wagon based on a playmobil chassis. I've just bought the playmobil rc set from Germany as the euro is cheap. Hopefully great nephew will be up on Saturday so we can play trains.

That looks like fun - and I like the carriage too! There's something satisfyingly "railway-like" about two-train operation, even if many NG lines rarely (or never) did so!

I managed a spot of two train running myself a week ago, with assorted children taking turns on my R/C Little John while I controlled my Regner Konrad. When the children lost interest I found I could just about continue operations thanks to the geared Regner's ability to trundle along at a very sedate pace, but with run-rounds to perform at each end for each train it wasn't exactly relaxing! I may insist the kids indulge me with a multi-train session on Father's Day this year...

All the best,

Andrew.

PS, I've found that the little sticks that come with packets of "loom bands" make handing shunting poles for 3-link couplings, you'd better send your Dad out to buy some! They crop up in odd corners of our house, wherever my kids have discarded them...

Good to meet you Dan (and Stanley and John). Hope the weekend isn't too hectic. A few bits for wagon building and a half price book on the W&L. A pleasing haul for a show that is largely 4mm, good to see FofD flying the flag for 16mm.

Yes, nice to meet you sir! :) I haven't only just got back (shows how long the day is). Got another day tomorrow but I'm skiving off to Southampton on Sunday, mind you, it is a right pain not to be allowed to run steam.

Hi all, I've let this slide a bit haven't I? :?

Not much progress to report at the moment to be honest, just two things worth noting for future progress:

The original coach featured further up the page is now back in the workshop for completion. An interior is being added (coffee stirrers mainly, and a lick of paint) as will lights and extra details. It may be repainted into Choccy & Cream too, but that is to be decided!

The next item is that I have ordered a Newqidas German style coach for the railway. Its coming with no bogies or wheels so hopefully I'll be able to bolt my spare pair of RH bogies to it, re-paint and have another coach.

I'll keep this updated as and when :-)
