3 1/2" Rocket!

Post by mhlr » Tue Aug 05, 2008 4:28 pm

I went to visit one of my parent's friend's today. In his office, he had a rather nice pair of 5" Locos. 1 was a King George V GWR loco, and the other was a LMS loco I can't remember what it was called. Both built by his father who made castings. Behind the King George was a rather dusty little 3 1/2" gauge Rocket loco built by Procision Steam Models. A panel of the tender is broken off, the water pipe is off, the tank stapping is loose/fallen off, and a few other little bits and pieces. And VERY dusty! So he asked me to overhaul it up for him. So here what it looks like before I start on it!

A very interesting loco, and much more detailed than the Hornby 3 1/2" Rocket.

I particularly like the detailing at the back of the boiler with all the various controls.

Look forward to seeing your finished result.

I finished cleaning it up today, and I glued the tender panel back on and the water tank strapping on. All I gotta do now is somehow replace the missing strap, polish up the wheels with a wire brush, and just give it a bit of oil to make it move more freely.

Well she is all done now. It's still missing a water tank strap, need some very thin brass strip to make one of those, which I don't have. Here's the piccies!:

All I gotta do now is give it back to it's rightful owner!

Excellent clean up job Pete. You can only hope that the owner will take better care of it now.

I wonder why the loco rear wheels, and the tender wheels, were not painted yellow?
