This seems like a very good idea. In fact its given me an idea (thinking my transit van at work needs a notice board in the back mounted on one side.....so it folds down to reveal a track to use when the boss isn't about)..... Sorry digressed..
What are the development plans ?...Will yours be a bare baseboard, or landscaped or do you intend developing a range of building etc....

That Faller track is ace stuff! I had a decent set at one point, wish I hadn't sold it.

Tonight has seen the track layout finalised, following the arrival of a turnout from Bristol - glad I didn't pay the Ebay price!

The two single axle drive items of motive power I'd got were converted to 2 axle drive last weekend (which was "interesting", given that they were assembled with glue) but tonight they proved that they were both capable of hauling trains.

I like this a lot, I've always had a soft spot for micro-layouts and shunting puzzles. Belfield Quay being a perfect example.

Have you given any thought to what purpose the sidings would serve? Perhaps simply a small goods yard or servicing a mill or some other facility?

Given that it's location is a fluorspar mine, one siding will store the stock not in use and one will go ito the workshop, where a welder will be welding something!

Today I actually made some progress: Did another batch of measuring and drew up a cutting list for the 6mm ply I'm going to build it out of. Unfortunately, my favoured supplier who supplies 10' by 5' sheets (ideal in this case) was closed today coz it's Easter! Nevertheless, some progress was made and the ironmongery for the job sourced (apart from bolts and wing nuts - might nip out one lunch for those)

The layout is to be built on 6mm ply and enclosed in a box with EVERYTHING fixed down and lighting permanently installed. The theory is that on arrival at an exhibition the "box" will be stood on one end, the legs attached, the box stood on its legs and 4 flaps opened up to reveal the layout - one side (the back) having a switch panel for lighting and sound effects (said welder).

just googled Fluorspar I thought it was a made up name. Great design for a bit on display but will you be able to operate the points from your control position?

The points will all be mandraulic and as I'll be sitting out front this won't be too much of a problem.

More progress has been made in the last couple of days full update at: http://www.mdlr.co.uk/ff02.html and the latest picture:

............... shows the almost-complete "box" that the layout will sit in.

Next jobs: Fit handles (coz it's a dear to move without) make and fit legs, paint inside light blue, fit lights, fit outside skin of roof, fit trims and corners.........................

Where does the railway go, I really don't get it!

The railway goes inside the box, on the baseboard. You will view it through the right-hand flap and end flap holes - the left hand flap is for the operator and will face away fron the viewing public. The whole layout's going to be on legs and the baseboard will end up being somewhere near eye level!

The idea is that you close and bolt the flaps, then take the legs off - then the whole shebang will go in the back of my car (just...........)
