And so it begins. No idea if it will ever come to fruition but I am planning to do a 3D printed version of the NGG16. It will end up being around 780mm long but will all depend if I can get the bogies done in a manner I am happy with. It's a lot of wheels with 10 on each bogie, so a 2-6-2 2-6-2 here we go. I got the plan printed today and I will post up a picture in the near future!

I wouldn't get too excited, it will have a simplified motion so only conrods and linkage to piston, as with "most but not all" 3D printed models (I had to allow for Trevor Thompson). It is ambitious I will admit. A good friend of mine asked me to do this one a few years back and it's been waiting on a decent plan and for my experience to grow before tackling this. It might all go wrong, only time has the answers

Victoria has been in that condition for many years now, yet another unfinished project. The body is a scaled up one from Thingiverse and the steel / brass based chassis is a home made one, electric motor already fitted, it actually runs reasonably well, just needs a bit of weight or a spring on the front bogie

I recall reading the suggestion that, inevitably, all garden railway builders will eventually succumb to doing a Garratt (I certainly intend to). This one will be terrific, I’m sure. Love it.

Absolutely, if I ever finish it (yet to start it), it will definately be papered before painting, I so hate striations on major panels

You assume correctly, lucki!y enough I can print up to 300mm high so that fits the boiler in, just. However the footplate will need to be two pieces and bolted / glued together.

Well a little more done today, it doesn't look much, but I am slow and old, that's my excuse, lol

If I remember I will post up the stages as they go. This is only so others can follow if they want to

P.S. I know the wheels go inside the frame, this is just during the build so I can see what should go where

Printing that many wheels certainly beets making them on a lathe!

Well, a tiny bit more. Started some work on the drive system and bogies, very complicated and it may all change if something doesn't work out right. It is all being done "on the fly" with the plan being used for "reference" for sizes, but the bolt together parts are just a suck it and see how it goes. The motor placement has been challenging but I think I am getting there. I have yet to print anything so it may all change or get canned, we shall see

I am so glad you noticed that, I would have been in such a tizwas otherwise, not sure it would have run too well.

I think this project is actually bigger than I gave it credit for (ignoring the physical size), the engineering that went into those is amazing!
