Thanks guys for the kind comments. I must admit it does make things easier in 16mm, 4mm figures were a pain. I used the painted example on the ip website as a guide & did my own spin on it using the colours I had to hand. Even my wife commented on how good it was.

When I sat him in the Bole Ruston the seat in the cab lifted him so his feet floated. I've removed the seat & used the screw for the seat to screw him to the gearbox so he is fixed in position now. His feet are on the cab floor too which looks better. Going to weather the ruston at some point soon. I need to do the same to a simplex too.

I agree! The who thing's looking great - aspects of it remind me of Abergynolwyn, and that's got to be a good thing...

I wanted it to be more of a welsh falvour & I think it has come our well. I need to have a final push & finish it off. I'm currently making a start on a 4mm lanky signal box for our club layout so it may take some time to complete. I'm in no rush though. I'm rebuilding the garden railway this year into something far greater than I currently have, more details to follow.

This weekend has been the first of the year to have a steam up so I've not done a great deal of modelling.
I've currently got the kid's in the bath so I thought I would weather & detail a binnie slab wagon. Its amazing what you can do with a bit of weathering to those little kits.
I really need to crack on with the Talyllyn coach that's been sat waiting far too long.

That's a really good bit of weathering! Nicely done!

Perhaps they splash so much he thinks it's raining?

I leave the kids to play & my workshops next door to the bathroom so I can sneak in a bit of modelling

It's amazing how you manage to sneak a little modelling time when you've got young children... What I don't understand is how I don't seem to have any more time for modelling now all of my kids are teenagers and two are at Uni?!! I must be doing something wrong...

The FR flat looks great. I'm contemplating making a slab wagon or two for my slate train, but working on several other things at the moment. Very slowly...

Now I'm retired, I can't understand how I used to get so much modelling done when I was working full time. I must have been a lot more efficient in my time management then than I am now. I suppose all those snatched half hours added-up.

I actually used to get much more done but I've slowed down a bit. It's having time to fit everything in, there's never enough hours in a day.

I knocked this up on recently which is a Aberllefenni wagon from IP Engineering. Easy kit to make & a nice little prototype.
I will finish it off with a few more bits of paint then a subtle weathering to finish.

What a lovely little wagon, and nicely built too.

It is a little gem of a wagon, I do enjoy quirky railways & rolling stock. Infact I'd say all my railway modelling has been quirky to say the least.

My wife this evening wanted to study for her course so I have made a start on bringing the binnie slate wagons to life.
I have 6 in total, so I took out a red & a grey painted wagon. Both have been treated the same with basic halfords primers.
The whole rake was assembled & painted a good few years ago so I think the primer has hardened off.

I painted all the blackwork on both wagons & then used the same techniques I used on the slab wagon to weather the grey wagon I had selected. I've done it a little different to give variation.
I've ordered some trenarren models slate loads to complete the rake & I'm now going to chip away at the rake a wagon or two at a time until this rake of wagons is complete.
I've a good selection of live steam engines but I think Lilla looks great with this rake of slate wagons. I'm looking forward to seeinging them complete on a sunny day.

I'm going through a slate wagon phase myself at the moment. The same as you I have some red oxide wagons and some in shades of grey - I love how there's a surprising amount of variety of tone in a rake of them...

Andrew its good fun making & weathering slate wagons. My next phase is slaters etched brass slate wagons to give the rake variation & make it bigger.

I am hoping the weather stays fine this weekend then I can get a few locos in steam in the garden. We are planning to start sorting the garden out after winter as my small railway looks a bit rough as the garden bit has overgrown & needs seriously weeding.

I've roped the wife in to help me so fingers crossed the weather stays fine.

A new arrival today for the fleet. These go together exceptionally well, I do enjoy slaters kits, I enjoy making etched brass kits too I just don't have the time I once did. Wagons thankfully are easy, the plan is to do a slaters Alice class hunslet when winter arrives again.

We've had a opening in the weather & the sun came out, the forecast was for rain so it was a bonus. Taliesin was in steam today on the slate wagons & it looked superb in the sun.
Incidentally, the trenarran models slate loads arrived this morning giving the wagons the weight they needed.
