Manual point levers

Post by ge_rik » Wed Aug 11, 2021 10:42 am

My latest project is to replace my LGB manual point levers with something which looks a bit more realistic. A few bits of brass and a couple of redundant sleepers from a sleeper-strip.

Very neat job Rik. I'm guessing the blades are not sprung but there seems to be enough weight to hold them in place whilst allowing trains to trail through without derailing?
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?

Yes, unsprung. In fact, trailing through switches the blades to the other direction. No doubt, by shifting the positions of the pivot holes in the lever and the plate, it could be made to spring back ...... sounds like a bit more experimentation might be on the cards ...... 😏

Simple and effective - that screams "narrow gauge". :thumbleft:

I've modified the construction slightly. My thinking is that inverting the bolts puts the nuts on top which look a bit more realistic than the cheese heads.

Rik
While procrastinating more over a 3D printer purchase I came across this on the net.

He also has a set of points which could be useful for indoors.

Graeme,
"arockstone" is a quite well known SM32/G Scale designer/contributer on Thingiverse, with a range of wagons and track components. Both Rik and I ( and others) have printed versions of his little diesel loco.

Somewhere (possibly Thingiverse), I came across 3d drawings of a double slip in 45mm gauge. I might give it a try sometime.
