Not yet decided what to do with the extra bit of landscape. Maybe a goods shed or even a coal shed like they had at Blythburgh on the Southwold.

The cottage is a pottery model from Stanton Abbott. No longer trading as far as I can see.

Actually, Linda is very tolerant as to my incursions. As long as she has access to her veg beds and greenhouse, she's quite happy. Mind you, she hasn't noticed that the raised veg beds just happen to be the same height as the railway raised beds. Pure coincidence, of course

There was a brickworks in Longton where I used to live Rik. Unfortunately the works are now residential, with the clay pit now a Nature Reserve.

Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve.

I would be quite happy living next to a nature reserve rather than a brickworks Rod!

I wanted raised beds in my garden when I first started planning the now closed RWLR, however, it did not fit in with the 'planning committee' ideas. Next house, maybe...

I've now finished widening the raised bed at Bulkeley reduce the precariousness of the siding at the front of the bed.

Whilst out walking the dogs, I couldn't help thinking about your current progress in railway construction.... here in West Wales we are in gentle breezes and light rain (I don't like to exaggerate!) courtesy of 'Dennis', whilst I picture you outside in shorts and sandals, with transmitter in one hand and sipping chilled beer from the other.
From the picture posted above it looks as though I was correct?

Looks great Rik, the weather in Kent is awful at the moment.

Ah! Not quite. You might notice the frost on the ground in a couple of pictures of the raised bed under construction - and Dennis is rearing his head as I write this....

I really do think you explain how to do a proper job on building retaining walls Rik. It's the same principle I would imagine to build any wall. Get the foundation right and you are half way there.

I try to remember what I needed to find out when I started building my railway and then share what I've learned in case others need similar info. My dad taught me how to mix concrete and lay bricks when I was a teenager and I always think of him when doing jobs like this. I can still hear his voice if I put too much water into the mix - "Don't let the liquor get away!"

Looks good Rik Lots of possibilities for a new scene to be built on the newly acquired land.
Next step a bit more brick work to blend the 2 walls on the right hand end together this will remove that angle area that will cause an issue with the grooming of the lawn, unfortunately a bit of land will have to be sacrificed to do this.
That would be the excuse I would use for another land grab disguised as an improvement.

Why wait until next week? Rik appears to live in Shangri La there, sheltered from the storms we are enduring elsewhere.

A few more jobs to be done before another land grab ...... Weather permitting!
