Oh! so do I Rik, except I use a layered filing principle, one layer of junk on top of another !!
I'm afraid to say I haven't seen the top of my bench in years. Instead I opened the drawers underneath and put
scrap ply on them and start again. Terrible to admit, I used to be exceptionally tidy years ago too.

No Name, no pack drill!
PS can't believe I posted this photo
I believe I can detect a sense of order beneath the chaos ...... :)
It's reassuring for the rest of us that you can produce such exquisite models without the need for a sterile environment. :thumbleft:

Agreed Rik. My pile of junk, aka work bench, currently looks much worse than that, and I actually tidied it earlier this morning - I simply HAD to find enough space to paint a model building's front door.

Just seen your video Rik....It's another masterpiece...... :salute:

Not only are you one of the top modellers on the forum, :notworthy:
(I put you next to Peter) on here. You are a master carpenter too. You could make an awful lot of money building them for other members.....

I am wanting a new shed myself for our new place. (I don't have a model room now.)... :( :(
Any chance of one mate....

Another great job Rik. I am now suffering serious shed envy!

ge_rik wrote: Sat Nov 23, 2019 12:06 pm Have now more or less finished the workshop. There's still a bit more titivating to do inside, but it's now usable. In fact, I've started working again on railway related projects (painting some figures bought at Llanfair).
I’ve been a bit out of things for a while, but was following this with some interest.

Dad’s shed is an Aust. institution, but yours isn't what I know as a shed. Ours are usually unlined corrugated iron, with a concrete or earth floor (my grandfather’s shed didn't even have a door). Yours would be described as a studio in a real estate listing around here, or a bungalow in less pretentious suburbs.......

Anyway, well done, every bloke needs a retreat when he’s in the doghouse and you’ve built yourself a deluxe doghouse. ;)

Graeme

Thanks Graeme. It's a bit of a fag when I have to venture outside each time I need a screwdriver or craft knife for something in the house, but it's a great retreat. I've been digitising a load of my vinyl LPs and reliving some of my misspent younger years. Remember Tubular Bells?

I was only listening to that today, as well as War of the Worlds. I had a bit of a personal Prog Fest.
I shall be finishing this evening with some early Genesis.

Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells CD is in my shed too, along with War of the Worlds! They are some of my personal favourites and always relax me.

War of the World's! I must dust off my vinyl copy and digitise it. Just hope it's not too scratched.

I believe this is the same stage show version of the 'War of the Worlds' I saw at the 'The O2' years ago:

In the first house I owned, the train room was in a separate bungalow up the back and the workshop was also the carport. Never again........

When I built the new house I made sure the train room and workshop were part of the house. The train room opens off the family room through sliding doors, although it's called a rumpus room on the plans. The workshop space is part of the garage and the access door is in the kitchen.

I think I have an LP somewhere of Tubular Bells and probably a CD, but rarely play even CDs now. The radio in the family room is permanently tuned to ABC Classic, as is the radio in the workshop.

I prefer the radio as I don't have to stop what I'm doing to change a disc and I hear music I may not otherwise have listened to, or learnt about.

90% of my music consumption is streamed from either Spotify or TuneIn via a mixture of Google Home devices around the house.
The hobby room and living room have them configured as a stereo pairs, I have been addicted for some time to whole house audio.
It's as far as I allow my techie life to extend to my railway hobby, although I finally have a Deltang set-up awaiting trial for my battery diesels.

Rik,

I solved the tools trek problem by keeping a small tool box with screwdrivers, hammer, and craft knife in the house.
It lives at the bottom of a cupboard out of the way in a place approved by SWMBO.

Not only that but SWMBO can use them as well, after a bit of OJT, so the "Honey Do" list is kept to a minimum.
