The roll of aluminium foil I've got came from a local craft shop and is approx. 0.1mm, which is a similar thickness to the foil used for pie dishes, etc.

The width of the workpiece can also be an issue. I ran into problems when I tried to corrugate 0.25mm brass shim, which is definitely beyond the limit. It took multiple passes with an anneal after each pass through the rolls to get even corrugations across the strip, which was about 110mm wide. A test piece about 50mm wide worked OK, which lulled me into a false sense of security......

Mine are aluminium also Rik. They do a good job, but I think I have some thin sheet. The only thing with them is they are quite small. I haven't put anything from them on a build yet, but there is time...

More or less finished them off this afternoon. A quick test-fit on-location. Will need to do some proper landscaping and think about how I'm going to tackle the 32mm gauge feeder behind them.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but it's too hot outside to do more than take a few quick pictures.... :?

Considering that was supposed to be a "test fit" it looks to me as if they had been in place for years. Well done Rik, your projects are always a true source of inspiration and put my efforts to shame.

Those final three photographs of it all in place are terrific. Beautifully realised and convincing as usual. Will you leave them all outside permanently?

(I’m having a go at a first foamboard/plasticard building, scratching my head regarding adhesives... Thank you)

I will probably leave them out over the summer but bring them in during the winter months. I'm going to move the leftmost hopper to the right hand end as it will be vulnerable to damage - it's where I tend to put my foot when reaching over to Beeston Castle station just behind. Also will mean not having to build a trestle fo the feeder railway (which again will be vulnerable to damage). It means I'll have to extend the siding, but seems worth the effort.

I use Vitalbond thick superglue - I buy it in 50g bottles on eBay.

Stunning Rik - very impressive - you are the home of hopper loaders - I remember you built one a while ago based on a kit (Piko?) that featured on your blog and was the basis for one I built - how you have moved on now though!
Where did I put that uncoupler?

Have now cast an embankment behind the hoppers so they can be loaded from a 2' gauge feeder line.

Of course, most of it is hidden behind the hoppers - but we all know it's there!

I've blogged the build in case anyone is interested - https://riksrailway.blogspot.com/2019/0 ... -from.html

That last picture Rik looks almost real life.

The workman who fill the wagons are very tidy, there is no spillage on the tracks at all!

They are a lovely addition to your line Rik and I am particularly impressed with the subtle change in roof-line between the three hoppers to show later constructions as production increased.... nice touch!

Magnifique!
I love the tiny timber 'extension'. Adds to the rustic look. Someone made a mistake in measuring wagon lengths?

Nice. I think the embankment when its weathered will blend in so much, it will look even more real. The trestle is a brilliant addition to the embankment too.
I love the way that some of the boards are lifting with age.. Superb. The tracks look fantastic also, when the birds and everything else get their grip on them....Wow even better.

Think your taking over PB's mantle of Legend..Well not quite yet..

You do seem to have a knack of having you're builds to look so very atmospheric Rik. :thumbright:

This I think is one of your finer creations Rik and I still can't believe the speed with which you do it, if that was me I'd still be thinking about it.

I just didn't fancy a big chunk of concrete extending into the cutting ..... It'll probably get kicked at some point so I may end up casting an extension :?

This looks fantastic and I hope, despite your careful ageing of it, that the trestle lasts a good long time, it adds a lot of character to an already fascinating scene!

Seems like the quarry is employing horse power for now - they might be persuaded to move into the 20th century eventually ... :?
