BHR extension
BHR extension
I thought that I would share the trials and tribulations of my railway extension as they unfold. This shows a view taken last autumn of the start of the Filcris structure which will carry the railway on to a three road terminus.
Winter then got in the way and I have only just been able to resume any construction. This shot shows what will be the terminus area, the frame again constructed using Filcris. I was planning on using a galvanised steel mesh covered with a weed membrane material topped with horticultural grit as a deck for the track but it turned out to be too flimsy. Instead I'm now going to deck it with some new plastic and bamboo composite that Wickes have started stocking (usual disclaimer). In the photo you can see one of the boards just laid on the frame to give me some idea, I will leave a small gap between the boards for drainage and I will finish the surface with some kind of grit.

That looks interesting Phil. It is going to look good when it's finished and not be obtrusive.
I haven't finalised my construction method and materials yet although I am favouring lightweight breeze blocks at the moment. I will be interested to learn of your experiences with the plastic and bamboo planks. They're new to me.

Just tried to reply to Ian and I find that my photos have disappeared, not being the world's greatest computer user and I did have great difficulty in posting the photos in the first place, I'm wondering if I have done something wrong?
As usual I'm sure that someone here can put me right.

Re: BHR extension
My fault, I did an upgrade today so you will need to edit your post and add the pictures again.
This won't happen in future as the automated upgrade method I wanted to use apparently doesn't work properly so I have gone back to the manual method.
Apologies.

Re: BHR extension
Ian, in the first photo the Filcris track supports have been in place for five years and apart from a wash with a hose each spring I have had to carry out no maintenance at all. As regards the plastic/bamboo composite time will tell but I suspect that it will see me out.
