Thanks chaps. Glad you've found my scribblings interesting. I get a fair bit of pleasure out of sharing my experiences but its great to get feedback.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a 'table top' sale the Civic Hall in the nearby town of Nantwich. A model railway society based in mid Staffs had a stall and were selling off some of their spare stock. I was chatting with one of the blokes who asked me what scale I model. When I said 16 mill, he asked where I was based. As soon as I mentioned I was between Nantwich and Chester he said, " You must be Rik. The Peckforton Light Railway. "

Now that really took me by surprise. But then, I suppose, the 16mm world is quite a small pool.

2 quick questions if I may?

1) did you add any kind of waterproofing agent to the mortar mix for your stream? I've been playing with colour mixes to match my stonework and along the way it did occur to me to add some SBR, but that does seem to darken the base mortar colour quite a bit.

2) When you extended your stream, did you glue the two liners together or just overlap them?

Hi Philip
1. No, just plain mortar. I relied on the liner to provide the water-proofing.
2. No, I had a large overlap, working on the principle that if the overlap extended up the gradient for more than the depth of the stream then it would not leak. No way of checking that of course, but the theory seemed reasonable. I do lose a small amount of water from the system when the pump is running - about a bucket full in half a day's pumping, but that could arise from minor leaks, splashes over the edge or even evaporation.

I've been debating with myself for a while as to whether I should make mine a wee bit longer from the outset. I bit the bullet this afternoon and moved my sump dustbin about 4ft, but I will now need to join the liner when I get that far.
