A Summer's Evening

Sometimes, there's nothing better than just sitting in the garden watching a train pass by .....

A very unusual approach to videoing. Must try it myself rather than going into boat building.

I was just sitting in the chair watching the train and decided to grab the camera to 'capture the moment'. I'd have synched the cylinder beats with the wheels a bit more carefully if it had been a planned shot  :(

I was also watching the birds coming and going on the bird feeder but of course, as soon as I pointed the camera at them they disappeared.

PS - You'll notice I also turned down the sound from the sound card - just wanted to share that with myself rather than disturb the neighbours

Please don't. I do look forward to seeing developments on your railway (and pinch your ideas :) )

I shot another clip just after the one already posted. Train making her way back to the storage sidings. This time I synched the engine beat to the wheels a bit better.

Bonus clip at the end if you can bear to watch it through

Excellent video. It might be me but does the cylinder move ever so slightly occasionally?

Very peaceful and relaxing. I've not been too sure about sound systems, having experienced a few at exhibitions where there is no escape! However, yours seems to sound much better and in time with the motion.
Nice to see slow running too!

You're certainly an eagle-eyed lot on this forum. Yes, there is some play in the cylinder. I just can't figure out where it's coming from. I've stripped it down and rebuilt it (in a different position) but can't get rid of it. Something is binding slightly somewhere.

The latest version of the MyLocoSound unit is even more sophisticated than its predecessor. It comes with an IR remote control which allows for adjustments on the fly. I turned the volume down for this evening run; the neighbours were out in their garden so wanted the sound just to reach me. The receiver for the IR is just peeping out from the corner of the cab doorway.

She's my most controllable loco. Partly due to the Piko mechanism, and partly down to the latest version of the Deltang receiver/controller. I do enjoy slow-running and shunting. It's why I've stuck with the ugly-looking LGB hook and loop couplings - I would prefer more realistic choppers but can't afford to replace them with something which is equally reliable, easy to couple and uncouple and stays coupled over my roller-coaster-like trackwork. I can live with the gentle art of compromise between realism and practicability.
