4x4 Simplex

Post by ge_rik » Sat Jul 04, 2015 12:03 am

At the risk of flogging a somewhat tired horse, I just wanted to share with you the outcome of adding chain drive to the IP Engineering Simplex which I finished recently, so she now has 4wd. Whereas previously she could just about manage three or four (at a pinch!) LGB skips on the flat, she will now happily pull eight plus a brake van up my 1:40 gradients. It's unlikely I will subject her to this sort of load every time I run her as her mechanism is a bit delicate, but I must admit to being somewhat amazed at the difference this little mod makes

4WD is the thing that makes Flagg Fluorspar possible - a 1 axle drive loco just will not hack it, even running light!

Nice scenic trip along the line and taken at a sensible steady pace.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
