It is a 1930's design by LBSC for an O gauge steam powered diesel outline loco. Perhaps diesels were starting to appear on the scene then. I scaled-up the design for 45 mm gauge, and increased the width a bit to match my LGB stock.
I've seen a picture of one other model made to the plans.
The loco has a large twin burner horizontal boiler up front. At the back in the cab there is a vertical single cylinder slide valve motor. It has a short stroke, and a larger bore. The motor drives the wheels by a worm gear. The steam is exhausted straight under the cab.
The flywheel is inaccessable, so there's a crank shaft extension front and rear which I plug the electric starter into. The motor has a slip eccentric and can run backwards too depending on which way the starter is going.
I am very pleased with the exhaust sound.
Best wishes,
Dave
