Sandstone and Termite Mail train

The only long distance passenger train on the Sandstone and Termite is the overnight Mail train from Termite to Sandstone (and in the opposite direction). This video follows the train on it's journey, which is part at night and part in early daylight. Apologies for the low quality of the old night videos.

The 3 carriages are scratchbuilt from styrene. The mail van is a standard Bachmann Baggage car. The 2 locos shown are also scratchbuilt on Bachmann or Piko motor blocks and are radio controlled and have my own design sound systems.

(I must admit there really is no Termite station on my railway - Termite is just the indoor storage area. But since I have recently closed down the line to Ti-tree, I have taken the liberty of using old videos of the Ti-tree station site and claiming it to be Termite.)




Some old clips, some use of my cheap phone camera, my new camera which I can't get to focus close up on video, and grandson Nick's GoPro (walking along Melaleuca platform).

You might have to turn your volume up.

FYI, the GoPro has a very wide angle so gets lots of unwanted background, but it worked really well when 'confined' between the train and station building. I tried using my dashcam, with the same problem.

Gregh, I enjoyed that, some nice shots and editing, very impressed with the trestle bridge, like to see more of that.

An excellent video, Greg. Has a real story and the editing keeps our attention throughout. I do like the shots taken 'walking along the platform, and also the shots as the train pulls into Sandstone. I also like the way the passengers appear to board the train - oh, and that shot from beneath the trestle. An then, there's the nighttime shots ..... In fact ..... I like it all!!

I built the trestle back in 1995 and have no good pics. BUt I had to do major repairs in 2013 and you can see these.....

Me too. I reckon on shooting at least twice as much as I actually use. I worked for a while alongside a professional videographer and he told me that 'in the business' they usually work on a 10:1 principle ie shoot ten times more than you actually use. Not sure I could bother to go that far....
