Semi-scale BR: almost the first train of spring 2020

Post by BertieB » Fri Apr 17, 2020 12:02 am

Another challenging video from the secret 3’11” gauge Dorset branchline: the First train of spring (2020) with the newly built, approximate 2MT.

As usual, music and full-size audio (some of which was even of a real 2MT) has been plastered all over it. If you’ve seen any of my previous video efforts some of the shots may seem familiar (there are limited spots where I can usefully point and peer at the camera). But I have to say the Deltang stuff is wonderful for doing this kind of thing. I’m afraid some of it’s a bit soft. Didn’t notice till days later. Probably best viewed on a tablet with your best headphones. Play Loud!

January 2021 — I’ve dumped the original from YouTube and replaced it with a mildly re-edited version, with the worst of the soft shots dumped.

Ditto! I watched it while standing in the queue outside Asda in the rain and it revived my flagging spirits... I need to watch it again with sound now - I thought my fellow queue-ers could do without 2MT sound effects, and I could do without their funny looks!

It's a beautiful loco, the wagons look great, and the garden's looking lovely too, especially the bluebells.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Very atmospheric and nice editing to include appropriate sound effects
You may have said before, but what camera are you using? There are some nice through the flowers shots where the focussing on the train is spot on.

Lovely. My only objection is the “spot the weeds” comment near the end: I’ve been out pulling up handfuls of nettles and brambles this afternoon - that’s what we call weeds in Yorkshire.

It was probably a happy accident!

There are also some ghastly soft shots in this video which I should have discarded...

The camera’s a Lumix FZ72 ‘bridge’ camera and is likely very capable - but I’ve yet to master it for this sort of thing. I need to spend some time methodically practising with fast shutter speeds and pre-focus I guess.

Cheers.

If you haven't already, it's worth exploring the scene modes, and more importantly, going to manual mode too. There are some great online resources to help. I did a short OU course on digital photography before the courses got stupidly expensive (they no longer seem to offer it) and found it of great benefit.
