Question though, do you have a table in the middle of the lawn with 20 remotes, the psion, cup of tea and the camera on? I think you would need 8 arms for some of those movements!

The Psion fits into my pocket and one Tx22 transmitter can control up to 12 locos. However, I do use another couple of transmitters from time to time and there's another one to control the remote pointwork. I tend to leave the relevant transmitter next the the dormant loco so I know where to find it. If you look closely at the video you can see a couple of transmitters which strayed into the shot lying beside stationary locos.

The points controller generally either sits on top of the sawmill roof or on top of the bush beside Bulkeley Station.

One day, I'm going to 3D print belt clips for the transmitters so I can hang them from my belt when not in use ....

Glad to hear your Psion didn't have memory issues Rik I was surprised that your bluebells are out. I'm only 80 miles or so north of you and ours are yet to appear! And I think anyone working for Canadian Pacific would be alarmed to see passenger trains taking precedence over freight But then of course, most of their passengers are tourists out to look at the views, rather than commuters, so as well as allowing more time to view the scenery, you get to see some awesome freight trains as you wait in a loop!

The general manager is a stickler for running passenger trains according to the timetable .....

Not viewed from a loop, but from Whistlers Peak summit (there are multiple Whistler Mt.s in Canada ) - the town of Jasper, with a freight train passing through -
The locos at front are by the star at bottom left, and the rear is beyond the red star at top left. That train (as best I could work out on Google maps) is over 3km long! How do you fancy sorting a manifest and shunting that into order Rik?

I think I'll pass on that one .... I think my laptop would probably run out of memory let alone the Psion....

No Rod. All the Psion is doing is telling which wagons need to be moved where. I still have to control each loco with a transmitter. The Psion program generates wagon movements on a semi randomised weighting system. This means, for example, that timber wagons are most likely to go to the sawmill and fruit vans to the two stations nearest the fruit farms. However, there's a random element as well so I've no idea at the start of a session which wagon will be selected or where it will be sent. It makes running session more interesting for me as sometimes the program throws up movements I wouldn't have thought of doing.

Of course when you think about it, they could never be paired with you Psion....Silly me. And the running of the trains has got to be far more interesting than just switching on a remote and letting the train run around or up and down the lines. I really do see the advantage of the system, unfortunately I wouldn't have the skills and the room to have something like yours mate.

Always encouraging to get some feedback. It'll probably be a wee while before I make another video. I've somewhat saturated my viewer over the past few weeks, and besides which the weather has turned so it looks like I'll have to get back into the workshop and finish off a few projects.

No need to make it computerised. I started off with a dice and some punched cards and there's quite a few who shuffle and deal out cards representing their wagons. To my mind it makes running sessions a bit more interesting - but as Peter says, each to their own. As long as you can get a train or two running, it's all worthwhile....

All this talk of shunting operations and making up train loads has now got me looking at my layout to see what else, other than a railway station and the sugar mill complex, I can squeeze into the layout.
An interchange with a railway over in the next valley (off scene) that takes and delivers goods and gives the passenger train somewhere to run to perhaps?
I could integrate it with the line that is proposed to goes to the storage lines in the shed.
A third layout because you have to have build layouts don't you?

I did say I was sorry for being "off topic" Rik. And in the program "Game of Thrones" there is an Ice Wall that is one of the main parts of the story. So I was just responding to Phil's comment mate. Still easy to make a mistake in not realising, if you haven't seen the series Rik. It is a very good program and one that is fascinating to watch because it is a strangely compelling series....
Warning though, if you do have a glance at it, you will be hooked....

I too have never seen the TV show, but I'm hip 'n' withit, innit.
Actually I'm not (hip 'n' withit), but I have read the books some years ago. Never subscribed to a service showing the TV series.
