Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Excellent stuff, well done, that'll be really handy. I wonder if you'll resist the urge to add scenery???
And go on Tom, go for it!

Your videos are always worth a good look. I'm very jealous of your locos and their control system.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Rik,
Some inspiration for backdrops can be found here.
https://ringbalin.blogspot.com/p/construction-logs.html
They are painted with white acrylic paint tinted with student artists acrylics found in a $2/Pound shop.
I have a cunning plan (sorry Baldrick) to put some on my G layout to ide the fence palings.

Thanks Graeme
Much food for thought here. I was considering creating a photographic backscene with shots taken around Peckforton. I'll give that a try first, but if it doesn't work or I need to fill some gaps then I'll try tapping into my artistic side

Have a look at this it is a UK based site with a fair few Australians on it, while it is primarily OO/HO any scale is welcome;

The "Gormo" person mentioned is a modeller in Sydney who does workshop videos of making stuff with whatever is at hand some good ideas there and some things can easily be scaled up to G.

I love it Rik, beautiful scenic filming and great editing. The landscape is at its best and the trains are there for a purpose, what could be better than that?
Your voice-over is calming and informative and, despite my reservations over loco sounds, they work well with the action. The horns and whistles seem a little 'enthusiastic'.

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
GREAT.
We really enjoyed watching the trains wending their ways through your line. Some of your scenes almost looked like rain forest! (But I guess not in Cheshire)
Must be a nice time of the year for your garden. Love the scenes that just give glimpses of your beautiful buildings. Peckforton station fence needs some repair, but that just adds to the realism.

Love it Rik. Fantastic voice over, far better than music and a lot more informative, it tells a story on the days running. It seems to be different every time....
Thank you Rik, I could watch your videos for hours, but Anne won't let me...

Very nice. And an agreeably relaxed voiceover too. The ‘deliberate mistake’ will have to be pointed out to me though.
Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
All my locos face Down the line, so an Up train should be hauled by the loco in reverse. I thought the shot would look better if the loco on the Up ore faced the camera, so I reversed it for this and a couple of other shots. It grates on me, but evidently no one has spotted it yet .......

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Sorry Rik I didn't because I don't know if a train is going Up or Down a line. Not being that well up on how trains run on railways lines....
Still a fantastic video and like I say, I could watch them for hours, Anne permitting....

Gosh. I’m afraid that would never have occurred to me. Thanks.
Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
So Rik, how does this work if you have a loco turntable, or is this just a specialism of your railway.ge_rik wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 8:06 pmAll my locos face Down the line, so an Up train should be hauled by the loco in reverse. Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Hi Jim
As far as I know, very few UK narrow gauge railways had turntables and they generally had all their locos facing one way, though the Ashover had a triangle junction at one end. The PLR decided to have its licos all facing Down.

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Trains heading towards the main terminus are said to be heading Up the line and vice versa. London was considered to be there main terminus in the UK (for some reason) so trains travelled Up to London

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
That explains something I often thought strange..... why do people living north of London often say the are going 'up to London?' That now resolves that question for me.'

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Rik, that make things a lot clearer, you see i enjoy trains because of the engineering, but don't know much about the operation
Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library
Thanks Rik. Suppose I will have to turn my line to face South now...Only joking ....
And the build I am doing will probably have to go in the bin now too...... ...More on that later..
