I seriously considered making a complete 32mm or 45mm railway set some years ago - laser cut from plywood. Very simple electric loco and a couple of simple goods vans. Dropped the idea as I considered the market to be tiny for something like that.

We spend all that time worrying about wheel and track standards and then someone comes along with a few bits of cardboard and some glue and gives us a lesson in common sense engineering!

You could up scale it to a suitcase rather than a small box should be able to put a 16mm loco in that.
