Ffestiniog Hunslet 125 gala webcams

Post by Andrew » Fri Jun 22, 2018 8:34 am

Morning all,

This isn't a video, but it does involve moving images...

I thought folk might like to be reminded of the Ffestiniog's excellent webcams, particularly over the Hunslet 125 gala, today and over the weekend - http://www.festrail.co.uk/webcam.htm

There's loads going on (details here - http://www.festrail.co.uk/content/publi ... /547.shtml, timetable here - http://www.festrail.co.uk/content/uploa ... ple_v2.pdf) and they've put up an additional camera in Minffordd yard to show the action there.

Anyone feeling so inclined could make a donation at https://www.ffestiniograilway.org.uk/donations

I've got a laptop open on my desk so I can multi-task...

Andrew.

Andrew,

I'm afraid, for me, these are not excellent webcams.
I've been watching/recording for some years now.
They are frequently off-line.
When on-line, they frequently freeze up.

I know there could be issues with my connection and all that, but the similar webcam on the Tal-y-Llyn seems never to freeze.
Likewise the Bala Lake cam.
Changed/upgraded PC last year, problem still there.
A pal in Wales says similar.

Using a screen capture app, is rather frustrating when the picture freezes.

I do still look at it though.

I share your frustration about the picture quality and the tendency to freeze, but - much as I love the other lines - you can't beat the FfR for variety.

At the moment I'm particularly enjoying watching Linda on the 8:40 from Porthmadog - extra carriages are added when she returns and a Double Fairlie takes over for the rest of the day. On one day last week Linda then ended up hauling a very odd train after her early morning duties, with three brake vans - no idea why, but it all adds to the variety... Not that I watch at work, of course...

Cheers,

Andrew
