Sandstone & Termite
Re: Sandstone & Termite
Great looking video, Greg. I like the shot where the camera drops below the trestle on the Termite section to get the train on the other leg of the loop.
Apart from the railmotor, were passenger services suspended for the day?

Another fine video to watch with the morning cuppagregh wrote: βSat Nov 28, 2020 4:42 am Another Friday and only 3 of us ignored the heat and ran a few trains. The usual derailments, wonky track, bat flatteries and coupling problems appeared but added to the fun. I only had one loco and one wagon to repair/adjust after the day. (Who was it who shunted a 4-wheel wagon onto the Main and left it there ?)

Re: Sandstone & Termite
It was the afternoon of NYE and my grandsons started running trains but then decided to concentrate on some photography. Here's their 4 hours of work squeezed into 4 minutes. As usual, I spent a lot of time repairing minor track defects.
The big downside was that after "I left them to it' they manged to derail my red Garratt and not notice it 'for a few minutes'.
This is the result. The motor blocks of the Garratt are Bachmann Lyns. So after completely dismantling the front part of the Garratt, I still had to remove all the cylinders and jammed con rods to be able to get at the screws holding the block together. Then it was a quick fix of pushing the axles back together again. That was 4 hours of MY NYE gone.

Thanks Grampa!
What a fabulous way to spend NYE ( apart from the time taken to repair the Garret of course)

Looks like they are developing a good eye for shots of trains.

Yep, they seem to listening to me when I tell them to look out for ugly backgrounds and by changing the camera angle a little you can sometimes get rid of the background or at least minimize it. I was yelled at a couple of times to get out of the shot (well asked politely really). I am impressed with some of the loco shots they got.

Re: Sandstone & Termite
First run of 2021 with Geof and Keith.
Was not a very successful day. Apart from being too humid, I had two locos fail with low battery and one with a suspected plug/socket problem between tender and loco.
Geof's loco had a traction problem slipping on grades. And Keith's newest loco turned out to be undergauge at 42 mm so kept derailing.
I had wanted to run a big coal day but it was truncated due to loco failures. ( and the humidity)

Re: Sandstone & Termite
Really enjoyable video, Greg.
An impressive array of locos on the coal trains. Not sure if that was because of the failures or the rostering for the day.
Really liked the shot of the double header going up the gradient and the viewpoint shifting to beneath the trestle.
That hybrid loco of Keith's looks 'interesting'.... with its extended height cab.

Re: Sandstone & Termite
This will hardly be an original or surprising comment but β what a wonderful railway. Iβm particularly taken with the 0-6-0 tender and double-heading tank locos. Lovely

Re: Sandstone & Termite
Thanks for the nice comment. It was too bad that the 0-6-0 failed during the video - it was a broken wire between tender and loco.
I really like to use double headers or bank engines.

One of those days, huh? Get the same issue with humidity here, too.
Quite enjoyed watching the coal trains, you've certainly captured that NSWGR feel.

Re: Sandstone & Termite
Those of you who have been following my swimming pool car in the "Projects" section will have seen parts of this video before.
This is supposed to be a "Promotional Movie" made by the SaTR Management to publicize the Oasis Pool service.

Re: Sandstone & Termite
So when can I make a booking to ride the pool train, are the pools heated?
From a technical point of view; I take it that there a gyroscopic device that adjusts the pool level for the grades, so there is no water depth variation at each end of the pools as the grade changes?
Pools mounted on base controlled by hydraulic rams perhaps?

Brilliant video Greg again. The shot taken from under the trellis seemed a bit scary but unusual.... Loved it.

It's finally stopped raining in Sydney, so it was possible to give my new baby Heisler a run at a mate's place. (My layout is still drying out)

Very nice slow running Greg. The very first bit coming out of the brush, just looks so realistic.

I haven't made many videos lately, but I think this old hasn't been seen on this forum before.
It's the story of a very busy coal haulage day on the SaTR.
