Haven't heard of that poem before Graeme, he obviously knew the country well.

You have had your own disaster Greg. That's a real shame... :(

So glad those horrible fires are now out. We had our own fires 2 years ago on Saddleworth Moor, started by idiots having a barbecue and then by a complete moron again after the fireman had it under control, he started it again......

We could see the fires and smell the stench of burnt undergrowth 20 miles away.

Spelling mistake (Stance)...sorry.....

Greg,
I studied that poem way back in the 1960's at primary school, showing my age now.

I Just talked to a mate in Nowra and on New Years Eve he was getting ready to leave his house because of the fires, this week they have around 300mm of rain and there is more on the way with the cyclone. Landslides are now a big problem for them as there is no vegetation to hold the soil in place.

"Drought and flooding rains" to quote a line from another famous Australian poem.

Four of us got together in perfect Spring weather to run a few trains and have a chat over coffee.
First the videos, then a few pics. (mainly of my trains - no matter how hard I try I always seem to take more pics of my trains than of the visitors'.)

And this is Geof's video, so you can see more of his great little Dunkirk loco.

Looks like a really great running session with plenty of activity. Those pictures complement the videos well. #14 is still my favourite of your locos.

Mine too Rik. The look, size and sound all come together to be the most useful loco I have. The Aristo motor block is a good performer.

Some days nothing goes right on the railway.
This video traces the unusual operations on the SaTR when the loco on the main Daylight Express fails.
How will the Train Controller get the Express moving again and then how to get the failed loco to the workshops at Termite? All condensed into 7 minutes.

What a great video!!! I do love a story with a happy ending!

Did you have to power #2 while she was being towed or is the mechanism able to freewheel?

I assume you had an octopus handy to hold the camera and at least one of the transmitters while you did the filming....... 🀭

I agree! Nice to see the tank engines lending a hand too, I particularly like Number 20. And, as I've mentioned before, those lovely carriages...

Cheers,

Andrew.

Thanks for the comments Rod and Andrew. It seems quite a few people on youtube enjoyed the story. I thought the operations may have been a bit complicated for most.

I had to apply slight power to #2 while it was being towed. It was difficult to apply enough to just move but not to chuff. Then to power #7 to cause wheel slip.

The triple headers were even more needing of an octopus. Two locos have big Hobbyking aircraft type 'stick' controllers and the 3rd has a keyfob. I set up a small table to put the hobbyking Txs on and juggled the camera and keyfob in my hands.

Another Friday and only 3 of us ignored the heat and ran a few trains. The usual derailments, wonky track, bat flatteries and coupling problems appeared but added to the fun. I only had one loco and one wagon to repair/adjust after the day. (Who was it who shunted a 4-wheel wagon onto the Main and left it there ?)

Brilliant video again Greg. Understand about batteries, they are a bane aren't they...

Your wooden bridge is suffering the same has mine, rotting timbers. I guess yours though is a lot older than mine.

Great looking video, Greg. I like the shot where the camera drops below the trestle on the Termite section to get the train on the other leg of the loop.

Apart from the railmotor, were passenger services suspended for the day?

It was the afternoon of NYE and my grandsons started running trains but then decided to concentrate on some photography. Here's their 4 hours of work squeezed into 4 minutes. As usual, I spent a lot of time repairing minor track defects.

The big downside was that after "I left them to it' they manged to derail my red Garratt and not notice it 'for a few minutes'.
This is the result.

The motor blocks of the Garratt are Bachmann Lyns. So after completely dismantling the front part of the Garratt, I still had to remove all the cylinders and jammed con rods to be able to get at the screws holding the block together. Then it was a quick fix of pushing the axles back together again. That was 4 hours of MY NYE gone.

Thanks Grampa!
What a fabulous way to spend NYE ( apart from the time taken to repair the Garret of course)

Looks like they are developing a good eye for shots of trains.
