HGLW Wittenberg-Schafer Loco

Post by Chris Bird » Wed May 02, 2018 12:20 pm

It was a blustery and showery day yesterday, but I managed to get this little film in the can before the heavens opened.

Great video Chris - following reading your blog about building this, I got stuck into starting the chassis last night!
Where did I put that uncoupler?

Lovgely video and great little loco.

For me this is a lot of what narrow gauge in the garden is all about. A HGLW loco is on my wants list.

Nice little loco and a great finish. I didn't seal the MDF on my recent HGLW build before painting. I found the flat surfaces took primer and paint well, but visible end 'grain' sections absorbed the paint and needed several applications before they were sealed. If I made another model from MDF, I think I would follow your suggestion and seal any end grain sections prior to priming.

I always seal any build I do now Rik, mainly because the two coaches I bought from IPE didnโ€™t get done and they are now not that good at all of a finishโ€ฆAlthough most of my paint jobs are not that brilliant to start withโ€ฆ..

Oh yes Rick - I learned about the edges the hard way! I missed one in the build - the part of the brake wheel stanchion against the cab front. I didn't notice it when priming but after the first coat of ivory it was still black. How can I have missed spraying that - I wondered. Then I realised and it took about four more coats to make it reasonable!
Cheers
